'The camera always points both ways.

In expressing your subject, you also express yourself.' - Freeman Patterson

Doing a self-portrait is a provocative experience. We never really get to see ourselves as others see us. Even if we look at ourselves in the mirror, the mirror distorts the image and most of the time our brains cannot understand reflected image correctly. That is why I decided to take self-portraits in the mirror. Mirror has been and still is a great subject for discussion. Why? From vanity to superstition, mirrors have had an impact on society and culture. Since mirror was invented, many people called it magic and used it in magic rituals. In many countries mirrors were and still are covered in respect of the dead during the mourning ritual, according the superstition mirrors could trap a soul of the diseased forever. Sometimes, people believe that mirror is the gate to another world which is parallel to ours, and a person gazing at us from our bathroom mirror is the person from another world.

Mirrors have found their way into many different aspects of our life: from science to art, from magical toll to everyday use. That is why I placed myself in front of the mirror and took an image of the reflection. Maybe I’m going to take a picture of another person behind the mirror or maybe the mirror is going to reveal the truth I may not want to see?

Here's the mirror

Behind there is a screen,

Turn around-

On both ways you can get in.
